Refugee Pride: 365 - Simon's journey from hardship to hope
Simon* was a bank branch manager in Uganda before being outed as gay and fleeing to Kenya.
After a month of hardship, he reached Kakuma Refugee Camp, where he faced hostility. "The people view us as Satan."
In Kakuma, Simon met other courageous LGBTIQ refugees who helped and introduced him to ORAM. He enrolled in our livelihoods program and was trained in catering.
"ORAM has done tremendous [things] for the LGBTIQ community in Kakuma. [They are] giving us hope and assisting us to self-sufficiency," he said.
"Even if it is $5 or $1, it changes people's lives and supports me and [many] people behind my back."

*Simon's name and image have been changed to protect his safety and security.
Veronika and Alyona's story
Veronika, a trans woman from Ukraine, was forced to flee her home due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
"I struggled a lot when told I needed to find a flat by myself."
ORAM provided emergency housing to her and her mother, Alyona, in Berlin.
